Rouse Kent Public Art Award Chair
(2000)
Location : I don't know!
Materials : Maple
Funding : Rouse Kent Ltd
Commissioned for the new millennium by Rouse Kent Ltd, this seat is a replacement for the original Rouse Chair, which I designed and made in 1994 (see below). The Rouse Chair was the award "trophy", lent for a year to the winner of the annual Rouse Kent Public Art Award. The seat is composed of thirteen legs with a central seat back mounted on the rear, fully developed leg. The legs rise up as they move through stages of development from the outer legs towards the complete, developed central form. The seat back is composed of three elements - the removable middle panel carved with details of the winner of the award for that particular year. Each year a new centre panel would be made and carved with the new winner's details. The previous year's winner would keep their panel as a permanent memento of their achievement.
