Millenium Carving   (2000)

The work takes the ancient form of a triptych, the folding panels suggesting notions of the 'unknown' and the 'revealed'. Themes of new life and regeneration are expressed through the germination of a single seed, depicting the stages of transformation through from buds, to flowers to fruits, The left hand panel shows the Medlar fruit, symbolising patience and transformation. The right hand panel shows the plum, symbolising hope and perseverence. Central to the piece is the symbolism of the cross.

This piece was commissioned by my mum in 1994 for her beloved 'church in the woods'. The font cover design links us back to the church's Saxon origins (built in 1040). The fleur de lis and lettering picks up on the stonework of the font and was carved by Georgia Wright.
