The World in OUR Hands
I designed The World in OUR Hands to be sited high on Crouch Hill, which rises up behind the public open space (POS) of the new housing development where this sculpture is located. The sculpture was to act as a beacon to draw people up towards the wilder, wooded zone. The small seat at the base of the sculpture would offer a perch for the walker to catch their breath and to look out and across at the extensive views. Unfortunately, for technical reasons, it was not possible to locate the sculpture there, and so it is sited close to the housing at the foot of the POS.

The sculpture is purposely ambiguous in its reading. At its heart it is referencing the true union between nature and humans. The carved forms contain various ideas and possibilities. There are two discs, each a reflection of the other. The circle is symbolic of unity and wholeness.

The title reminds us that we all have agency and that we can make positive decisions about how we relate to our unique and fragile home - planet earth.
