Pediastrum

Pediastrum is a wall relief carving based on the form of the microscopic algae of the same name. The contained hexagonal shapes bear a variety of seeds and fruits, with the two innermost depicting the stamen and anther, the creative/reproductive parts of all plants. Around the outer part are tooth like structures, spreading and reaching out to the world.

I also made two seats and a table for the outside courtyard area. The carvings on the two seats make reference to microscopic natural forms which exist in water, primarily algae and spirogyra. On each seat features a central motif from which forms spread and evolve. Pediastrum Seat holds the same form as the wall panel - the algae Pediastrum.
